Bethany triumphs at global wine challengeBethany Wines
Bethany Wines has secured its reputation as one of world’s leading fine wine producers after an exceptional performance at the 2013 International Wine and Spirits Competition.
The family-owned winery was among a handful of wineries from around the globe to be awarded not one, but two Gold Outstanding medals – the top medal in the competition.
The medals were awarded to Bethany 2008 GR12 Reserve Shiraz and Bethany 2012 Eden Valley Riesling.
Judges noted the Shiraz had…
“A lovely deep ruby-purple colour; blackberry fruit with white pepper and vanilla accents; excellent build-up of flavour in the mouth with silky texture and bracing acidity to balance the powerful alcohol and massive fruit. Black pepper and smoke lift the lingering finish. Awesome wine! Probably needs another two to five years, but so seductive now.”
The IWSC is considered the ultimate recognition of product quality, setting the international benchmark for excellence of the world’s best wines, spirits and liqueurs. The combination of detailed technical analysis and specialist judging panels means that gaining an IWSC award is an exceptional achievement.
Bethany Wines was also awarded Bronze medals for its 2010 Barossa Shiraz and its 2012 Barossa Semillon.
The awards come off the back of an epic year for Bethany Wines, whose wines have garnered praise by judges and critics of the highest calibre.
Last month the Barossa Valley winery was awarded eight prestigious accolades at the Decanter World Wine Awards, including Silver for its 2008 LE Reserve Shiraz.
Bethany Wines director Geoff Schrapel said it was an honour and a thrill for Bethany Wines to be recognised internationally for its wines.
“To come out winning double Outstanding Gold at an international wine competition is a real triumph, as we’re competing against wines of the world – not just Australia,” Geoff said.
“It is also testament to the persistence over many years of the Schrapel family to produce top notch wines.
“Most importantly, it shows the strength of the Bethany Wines brand as a premium wine company.”
Bethany Wines’ IWSC award-winning 2008 GR12 Reserve Shiraz and 2012 Eden Valley Riesling will be presented at a pre-dinner tasting of the Gold Medal winners at the Grand Banquet in London.
The event is expected to be attended by some 500 people in the wine and spirits’ industry, including winemakers, journalists and importers.
