First Village Shiraz 2021

Yet another excellent wine from the sensational 2021 vintage. The fruit here was placed in oak hogsheads after fermentation, for 12 to 18 months maturation. Near black/purple in colour, the nose gives us the proverbial cornucopia of aromas – aniseed, chocolate, cocoa, bay leaves, spices, old cigar box notes and cassis. This is supple, fresh and delicious, taking full advantage of the nature of 2021. Sleek tannins. The palate moves to coffee beans, soy and tobacco leaves with that chocolate always present. Very good length. Now for six years.

Delightfully fruited and elegantly lifted, showing dark plum, violet, tar, almond and warm spice aromas, leading to a fruit-expressive palate offering succulent flavours with supple texture and beautifully pitched tannins. Well-rounded and smooth with a pleasingly dry finish.

The 2021 First Village Shiraz is uncomplicated but silky, hugely flavorsome and pleasurable. It's an inky, fresh take on Barossa Shiraz. There are notes of blackberry pie, blueberry, raspberry compote, red licorice and tobacco, with a plump texture—all good things here. This comes highly recommended for the money ($35AUD). 14.5% alcohol, sealed under screw cap.
